Salamanca Arts Centre

Salamanca Arts Centre — Hobart’s heritage arts precinct

Salamanca Arts Centre sits on Salamanca Place in central Hobart, fifty metres from the harbour and the Saturday Salamanca Market. The Centre occupies a row of restored 1830s sandstone warehouses on Hobart’s old waterfront and contains multiple performance spaces, gallery rooms, artist studios and the Peacock Theatre as the principal mainstage. The Centre is a key venue for the Dark Mofo winter festival and for the Mona Foma summer festival, with substantial year-round programming of contemporary theatre, music and visual art.

The rooms

  • Peacock Theatre — the principal mainstage performance space.
  • Founders Room — used for chamber music and smaller-scale theatre.
  • The Long Gallery — exhibition space.
  • Multiple artist studios housing the Centre’s resident artist community.

Getting there

Walk from any Hobart CBD or waterfront hotel — Salamanca Place sits at the heart of Hobart’s heritage waterfront precinct. Pair the production with the Salamanca Market on a Saturday morning, the Battery Point heritage walk, or the Hobart waterfront dining (Aloft, Frank, Templo are all within ten minutes’ walk).
