Federation Concert Hall

Federation Concert Hall — Hobart’s principal symphonic venue

Federation Concert Hall sits on Davey Street in central Hobart, a ten-minute walk from Salamanca Place and the Hobart waterfront. The hall opened in 2001 as part of the Federation Square redevelopment that built the new Hobart Federation Concert Hall complex on the site of the former Australia Hotel. The hall is the principal home of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the regular Hobart venue for the Australian Chamber Orchestra‘s Hobart concerts and Musica Viva‘s Hobart subscription series.

The room

1,100 seats across stalls and circle. Acoustically dry-clear — well-suited to the classical-period repertoire that defines the TSO’s programming. The smaller capacity than the eastern-states symphony halls produces a more intimate listening experience.

Getting there

Walk from any central Hobart hotel — the city is small and walkable. Pair the concert with the Salamanca Market on a Saturday morning, MONA on the Sunday, and the Hobart waterfront for pre- and post-show dining (Aloft, Templo, Frank are all within walking distance).
