Her Majesty’s Theatre, Adelaide

Her Majesty’s Theatre Adelaide — heritage West End venue

Her Majesty’s Theatre sits on Grote Street in Adelaide’s West End, five minutes’ walk from Adelaide Central Market and ten from Rundle Mall. The theatre opened in 1913 and underwent major heritage-conservation refurbishment between 2018 and 2020 that addressed structural issues, replaced the seating, restored the original Edwardian decorative scheme and modernised the back-of-house. It is the regular Adelaide mainstage for the touring musical-theatre programme, selected State Opera South Australia productions, and the Adelaide Festival‘s second-mainstage programming each year.

The room

1,467 seats across stalls, dress circle and gallery. The 2018–2020 refurbishment restored the original 1913 decorative scheme, which is among the finest preserved Edwardian theatre interiors in Australia. The room’s acoustic profile suits opera, mainstage theatre and the touring musical theatre programme well.

Getting there

Walk from any Adelaide CBD hotel — the West End is small and fully walkable. Pair the production with the West End dining precinct or the Adelaide Central Market on a market morning. The Adelaide East End restaurant strip is a fifteen-minute walk for post-show options.
