Thomas Dixon Centre

Thomas Dixon Centre — Queensland Ballet’s headquarters

Thomas Dixon Centre sits on Drake Street in the West End precinct of Brisbane, fifteen minutes’ walk from QPAC and South Bank. The complex opened in 2021 as the new headquarters of Queensland Ballet, replacing the company’s earlier rehearsal facilities and providing — for the first time — a purpose-built ballet headquarters with rehearsal studios, costume and design departments, school facilities, and an in-house performance space.

The Talbot Theatre

The Talbot Theatre is the public-facing performance space of the Thomas Dixon Centre — 350 seats, purpose-built for chamber-format ballet and contemporary dance. The room is used for Queensland Ballet’s smaller-scale productions, contemporary mixed bills, education programmes and selected public class observation sessions.

The building also houses the Queensland Ballet Academy, the company’s pre-professional training programme, and the development laboratories where new works are developed and refined before transferring to the QPAC Lyric mainstage.

Getting there

Walk from South Bank (15 min via Boundary Street) or from the West End ferry terminal (5 min). Pair a Talbot Theatre evening with the West End dining — Boundary Street and Vulture Street have produced the densest restaurant precinct in inner-Brisbane in the last decade.
