Llewellyn Hall

Llewellyn Hall — ANU’s concert hall

Llewellyn Hall sits within the ANU School of Music on the Australian National University’s Acton campus in Canberra, a fifteen-minute walk from Civic. The hall is the principal Canberra venue for chamber music and concert performance, and is the regular Canberra home of Musica Viva Australia‘s subscription series, the Australian Chamber Orchestra‘s Canberra concerts, and the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. The room is one of the country’s better-engineered acoustics for serious music — a 1,300-seat shoebox-style hall that handles the chamber-music repertoire particularly well.

The room

1,300 seats across stalls and a single circle. Acoustically dry-warm — instruments sit forward and clear, with enough natural reverb to support choral and large-ensemble repertoire without artificial enhancement.

Getting there

Walk from Civic (15 min), or take the bus along Marcus Clarke Street. Parking on the ANU campus is free in the evenings. Pair the concert with the National Gallery of Australia (10 min walk) or the ANU’s broader Acton precinct.
