Albury Entertainment Centre
Albury Entertainment Centre — the Murray Border’s mainstage
Albury Entertainment Centre sits on Swift Street in central Albury, on the New South Wales bank of the Murray River three-and-a-half hours by road from Melbourne and five from Sydney. The Centre is the regional New South Wales-Victorian border touring stop for Bell Shakespeare‘s national tour, Musica Viva Australia‘s subscription series, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra‘s occasional regional appearances. The Albury–Wodonga twin-city region is the largest regional centre on the Sydney-Melbourne corridor and the Entertainment Centre is the principal arts venue for the surrounding country region.
The rooms
- Albury Entertainment Centre Theatre — 750 seats, the principal mainstage.
- HotHouse Theatre — Albury’s contemporary independent theatre across town, used for smaller-scale and contemporary work.
Getting there and pairing
Drive from Melbourne (3.5 hours via Hume Freeway) or Sydney (5 hours via Hume Highway). Train from Sydney Central or Melbourne Southern Cross (XPT/V/Line, approximately 6 hours from Sydney, 3.5 from Melbourne). Albury-Wodonga has its own regional airport with daily flights from both Sydney and Melbourne — the easier option for an interstate weekend. Pair the production with the Murray River, Beechworth and Rutherglen wine regions, or the King Valley wineries an hour’s drive south.
