The 28 member companies represented by AMPAG account for approximately 70% of ticket-buying audiences in non-profit performing arts, 86% of the employment and nearly 80% of box office and corporate sponsorship revenues (as the 1999 report of the Major Performing Arts Inquiry found).
Most of the member companies’ income is generated through box office, corporate sponsorship and other income-generating activities. Government subsidy accounts for as little as 10% of revenue in some member companies, but is an essential part of the income mix.
Government funding for AMPAG companies is through the Australia Council’s Major Performing Arts Board and State funding agencies.
Australia’s 28 major performing arts companies create dazzling work across the spectrum of performing arts – from music, drama and dance to circus, opera and ballet.
As producers of live performance, the companies represented by AMPAG play an essential part in creating a vibrant cultural life for Australians. They are committed to bringing the brilliance and range of talent in Australian performing arts to as wide an audience as possible.
